Guy “Dr Disrespect” Beahm was permanently banned from Twitch back in 2020, and he’s been creating content and streaming on YouTube since then, making the revenue split between the company and video producers more balanced. Since leaving Twitch, Dr. Disrespect has been critical of the company and some creators on the platform, not unlike tweets that turned Amazon’s livestreaming site into shit. His harsh remarks on Twitch may give Dr. Disrespect fans a better idea of how the two-time champion feels about the brand, as he continues to stream regularly on YouTube with thousands of viewers.
Dr. Disrespect has been known to criticize YouTube Gaming since switching to the Google live service, but he also has a lot of negative sentiment about Twitch, as he anticipates that new sites like Netflix might step in and clean up. While he laments the lack of features like talent subscriptions or raids on YouTube Gaming, Dr. Disrespect seems confident in Twitch’s decline, stating, “Things always happen.” It’s unclear as he didn’t add more context. Disrespect for what Dr. is referring to, but he may have hinted that he expects things to turn south for some time.
Twitch recently said it would adjust its revenue distribution so that streamers get half of what they bring in, while Amazon.com keeps the other half for services and features. Worse than the revenue share offered by the top Twitch contracts, but similar to the 50/50 coming into the platform in the near future, YouTube only takes 45% of streamers’ earnings and 30% of Super Chat donations. This disparity was reiterated when Dr. Disrespect made a statement about how much revenue can be earned in a given stream, which is probably the main reason why the popular YouTube streamer is so critical of Twitch.
While many of Dr. Disrespect’s YouTube viewers have celebrated his candid tweets about Twitch, others speculate that YouTube Gaming will need to catch up to be on the same level as the purple platform.
