Blizzard has revealed that World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King Classic will be getting a harder version of heroic dungeons with the release of the game Ulduar Assault.
The news comes from Kris Zierhut, lead game designer for Wrath of the Lich King Classic, who Interview with content creators MrGM and Scottejay, announced that a new, higher-difficulty version of the Heroic Dungeon will be available with the release of the game’s second phase of content. Stage 1 raid loot from 10 players will be transferred to these harder heroes. The boss of the new difficulty will also reward more badges after defeating, which can be exchanged for higher-level equipment.
This is a feature that was mentioned in previous Blizzard posts about a change from the original version of Wrath of the Lich King but not detailed, and may sound familiar to players of the modern version of World of Warcraft. In “retail” World of Warcraft, a core endgame feature is Mythic+, where players try to progress through more difficult dungeon versions for more rewards.
This new system in Classic Wrath of the Lich King, which players have informally dubbed “Hero+”, doesn’t go that far (it seems like each dungeon will only have an additional, more difficult version than it used to be slider to increase the difficulty at any time). Still, according to Zierhut’s review, the feature does appear to be influenced by the latest World of Warcraft expansion.
“It borrows a bit from future games, but we think it’s going to be very exciting and give all of this content more room to live, grow, and be relevant,” Zierhut said.
Wrath of the Lich King Classic releases on September 26th, bringing some major changes to the re-release of the most popular expansion in MMORPG history. The game’s Scourge pre-patch is now live, but plagued by massive server login queues, Blizzard is urging players in populated areas to take advantage of free server transfers to avoid having to wait hours to play.
