Brooklyn, New York: Man stabbed to death in row over failing to say ‘thank you’

One was stabbed to death after an altercation between two men in Brooklyn over opening a door without saying the word “thank you,” according to witnesses and police.

One of the men was stabbed to death in New York City after a late-night brawl, with one accusing the other of being impolite.

The altercation began at about 10:20 p.m. Tuesday in a war of words at a convenience store on Fourth Avenue in Park Slope, but later escalated when another person was stabbed outside the store.

The 37-year-old victim, whose name has not been released, opened the door for another, also unidentified customer, at the store and confronted him for not saying thank you.

“Why didn’t you say, ‘Thank you for opening’?” the victim asked, according to Kharef Alsaidi, an employee at the store.

“I didn’t tell you to open the door for me,” the suspect responded, Mr Alsaidi told ABC News.

“Just didn’t say ‘thank you’ for opening the door for him,” the witness said.

Mr Alsaidi said the verbal altercation escalated into a physical altercation, which ensued outside the store. In one instance, the alleged victim taunted the man by asking him to “stab me if you could”.

The suspect, who was riding a bicycle, grabbed a knife and allegedly stabbed the man in the stomach and neck, according to authorities.

“The victim started screaming, ‘He stabbed me, he stabbed me’,” Mr Alsaidi said.

He recalled that the victim “bleeds all over the floor” as the suspect fled.

“I tried to defuse the problem by telling the man ‘put the knife away’. He’s not worth it. It’s not worth it’,” Mr Alsaidi said. “I tried my best to get relegated but nothing worked.”

The man was rushed to Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
