Dunkey Announces His Own Video Game Publishing Company Bigmode

News

Video game critic and critic Dunkey, aka Jason Yevgeniy Gastrow, introduces a new company he will start with his wife to distribute independent video games. The news was announced in a recent video in which he detailed why he started the company and how it ties into his history with video games.

Over the years, some of the most popular games have been indie games, such as Hades Received Game of the Year awards at multiple awards ceremonies. However, not every indie game is a hit, and not every indie developer gets the support they need, which is exactly what Dunkey hopes to get into.

Videogamedunkey has revealed Bigmode Games, a new publishing company focused on indie games. In the video, Dunkey explains that after 11 years as a video game critic and content creator on YouTube, he and his wife Leah chose to open the publishing studio to support deserving indie game creators and bring More attention to actually good titles. As his video says, buying an indie game is similar to buying a loot box, as players may stumble upon gems, but also be disappointed, as the quality of indie games can vary widely.

Dunkey stressed that he won’t do anything to tarnish his reputation for being honest with the game, and that will continue throughout development. Dunkey and Leah are interested in supporting developers with new ideas and enthusiasm for their projects, and actively invite game developers to apply, whether they are on the development path or just in the planning stages. Dunkey also noted that the company has made contracts as fair as possible for developers and is not interested in exercising creative control over projects. Ultimately, Dunkey and Leah want to support games (and the developers behind them) that have earned their stamp of approval.

Dunkey has a long history of promoting indie games, though he doesn’t shy away from censoring AAA games. His channel highlights several of the biggest hits in the indie gaming world in recent years, such as Celestial, Untitled Goose Game, under the legendand cup head. He talked about these games on his channel to praise them and help get people’s attention, and now his company will continue and expand that work.

People who enjoy Dunkey’s videos may be concerned about what will happen to his daily content. However, Dunkey noted that Bigmode Games will be a “harmonious continuation” of his channel and videos. While it’s likely that Dunkey’s main channel will be used to promote some of the games that Bigmode Games eventually gets the publishing rights to, the content that fans have already started enjoying may not be going anywhere.
